Vacation Lazy Mom Style
What is a Lazy Mom vacation? A trip to the beach at an all inclusive resort? A spa weekend with her hubby? It could be. But for this Lazy Mom the ultimate Lazy Vacation is a camping weekend.
Yes, you read correctly. A camping weekend. You never pegged me for the camping type did you? Well life is full of surprises! The surprise right now, or maybe it’s not, is that I am not the one doing the camping!

My husband and daughter are part of the Adventure Guides program (formally known as Indian Princess) at our local YMCA. That means that three weekends out of the year they go camping. At least once a year they take my son with them. Thus the ultimate camping Lazy vacation!

I get to spend two days and two nights alone in my home. The best part is that a bunch of my best girlfriends’ husbands and daughters are part of the group as well. What does that mean? Girls’ Night Out! Or GNO Hannah Montana would call it.
The kids have a great time with their dad, I get to have some much needed alone time and I might even get to have a night out with my girls! What more could a Lazy Mom ask for!
I might feel a little guilty about this if I didn’t know that my kids really look forward to it! They get so worked up waiting for the weekend to come. They have a fabulous time and they talk about it for days after they get home.
The only down side? The whole family thinks they can talk me into sleeping in a tent! Hello!? Have they met me? Let me introduce myself. My name is Lazy Mom Leslie and I do not sleep in tents!
I’m linking to Works for me Wednesday over at We are That Family. After all, this camping vacation, works for me!
Now, we need your vaction tips, stories or favorites for our poll Friday. We have only received a few and we want to make sure we are able to give our cute Lazy Moms Tote Bag away! Click on submit a tip or leave a comment with your tip or story to be entered!

Last time I went camping with my family I had a little scare in the middle of the night that I can laugh at now. Our campsite was a pretty good distance from the outhouse (another reason not to like camping, lol) and my then 7 year old daughter woke me up in the middle of the night to take her potty. I unzipped the tent, climbed outside and waited for my daughter to join me. The next thing I knew she was tugging on my arm asking me what kind of animal was near us. I shined my flashlight in the general direction of the animal and realized it was a…SKUNK!!!! I told her to go back into tent quickly and very quietly so we would not get sprayed. Luckily the skunk did not bother with us but for the next hour or so we listened to it scrounge around the site all the while being too afraid of moving or making any noise. btw, we never did make it to the outhouse that night, lol
I love vacations! Any time we take a car trip, I put a basket of snacks in the seat between my kids. This way, I get to choose what goes in there, and we don’t spend money when we stop for gas. Inevitably, driving a long distance in the car is like a prolonged snacktime, so at least I have something for them (ok, and me too!). I also keep a little trash bag in the front to gather all the tidbits of trash. That way, the car doesn’t seem like a tornado hit it during and after the trip!
Oh, I had to throw my head back & LAUGH! (as, I DO NOT sleep in tents EITHER) A Camping Weekend (that does not involve ME doing the camping) sounds HEAVENLY!!!
The only vacation tip that I have to share is about packing…
I bought backpacks at Pottery Barn Kids a few years ago & had each of my three kids names put on them…they are the Fairfax collection, I think.
They have been EVERYWHERE! If we’re going on a trip in the car, I can pack each child’s clothing FOR THE WEEK in those backpacks (holds everything, even shoes). Everyone can find their stuff while we’re on our trip because they all have their own bag. These backpacks have served as carry on bags on the airplane…everybody has their selected toys & snacks in their OWN bag & no one is fighting over stuff…plus, the front pocket serves as the TRASH pocket…we just empty them out when we get off the plane. AND, these backpacks have also served as their school bags…currently two of the three are using them as their daily back packs & I think we are heading into YEAR FOUR with them & they still look GREAT!
I totally think it was money well spent, as these three back packs have helped keep it together…which with three kids is quite often IMPOSSIBLE to do!
Hi Girls
Now come on Leslie! You can do it, if I can! All you need to bring is a full bar (MOST important), a large tent that can hold a futon matress, lots of pillows and light blankets (think harem tent), pre-marinate and mix all your cooking items for the men folk to cook (because they have to, since it was their idea), and make sure there are bathrooms near your tent and showers available

Every other year we take a month long vacation to visit family overseas. With 4 of us and the luggage restrictions (although we are each allowed 2 suitcases – 8 suitcases will NOT fit into any vehicle available to us at our destination and hiring 2 taxis gets expensive!) – we have managed to travel with 3 suitcases. I sort each person’s clothes into types – shorts, shirts, swimsuits, underwear and pack anything foldable into zippered sweater pouches. This way each person’s clothes stay together and if the customs agents do open the luggage – OUR clothes will not fall out in a heap for everyone to see! I try to take as many non-wrinkling fabrics as possible and spotwash whatever gets dirty right away. Laundry machines are not always available to us and items have to be line-dried and ironed.
Looks like the kids had a BLAST! Those are the vacations they will always remember:-)
Man…I haven’t been camping since the boys were little and BEFORE comp soccer. Which means…no vacations…just soccer tournaments!!
I would love to go camping again:-)
My name is Lazy Mom Susan, and I do NOT sleep in tents, either! Camping just ain’t my thing.
Oh what fun for the kids, and enjoy your special Mommy time! It is so important to take time for yourself in the midst of all the busyness that fills up our days! Enjoy!
Oh yes, which e-mail should I send my address to? I am so excited to have won one of the adorable Lazy Mom’s totes! Thank you so very much!!! I look forward to participating in more of your fun tips and giveaways!
Have a great day!
With love from Colorado,
Denise
