TMT – Time to get Organized

March 10, 2009 7 Comments... Leave a Comment

With all the activity in the Lazy Mom world lately I have been feeling the need to get organized. Here is the built in desk upstairs in our home. I have mentioned it in the Lazy Lounge and I have talked about how I have been wanting to do a TMT up there. This desk area is at the top of our stairs and tends to get stuff dumped on it. When we don’t feel like putting something away it gets stacked here. As you can tell, that happens all the time!

LMA, which stands for Lazy Mom Amanda, not LMAO. Although LMA does frequently make me LMAO! LMA has put me in charge of the paperwork and bank account for Lazy Moms, LLC. I don’t mind, that’s something I’m good at. However, I need to get on top of the organization factor so I don’t get behind. I decided this area was the perfect place to house the Lazy Moms headquarters!

As you can see we have a couple of built in file drawers, which is great and provides lots of storage. So I grabbed my timer and got to work! There were a couple of stacks of dishes that needed to be boxed up and taken to the attic. My husband is sentimental and the dishes used to belong to his grandparents, so they are keepers! That red box is filled with computer disks and it usually on the shelves so I moved it back up there. There were stacks pictures that I moved to my scrapbooking space. I had several statements that needed to be filed. On the far left is a CD case and mixed in with all that were a few kids toys that were uncovered.

I’m not done with the area, but it looks so much better don’t you think!? I am now greeted with a pretty space whenever I reach the top of my stairs. That’s so much better than a stack of junk that was always a visual reminder of what I had not yet accomplished. And it only took ten minutes!

Here’s my to-do list for the area now:

  1. Clean out the cabinets and file drawers
  2. Set up our Lazy Mom files
  3. Rearrange the shelves
  4. Get a new light bulb in that cute lamp

Can you see anything else that I need to do? We are putting up Mr. Linky so you can post your own TMT. We would love for you to take some pictures of what you can accomplish in ten minutes and link back to us so all of our readers can come visit you. Share the love girls!

Speaking of sharing the love…Kari and Kijsa are having a pillow parade today so I thought I would share a couple of pictures of two of my favorite pillows in my home.
002-2This pillow is my absolute favorite! I saw these cross pillows in the Neiman Marcus catalog a few years ago. The problem was they were priced at $80 and above. I just couldn’t do it! So I gathered all the scraps of leftover material from the window treatments and pillows that were already in the room. I took the fabric scraps, a bag of stuffing and a picture from the catalog to my local upholsterer. They pieced this together for me and it only cost me $20. They didn’t put the fringe on, I hot glued it over the seams myself. The fringe was leftover as well.

003-1This pillow is another knock off from a catalog, this time it was Horchow. I have two of them, one in each chair on either side of the buffet in my dining room. The tan/gold fabric on the ends is a silk that the drapes are made from. The red pattern fabric in the center is leftover from a throw I had made. I have this huge square throw on my dining room table under the centerpiece. It is made from that red pattern fabric and the red diamond fabric that is on the cross pillow pictured above.

Again, I took the fabric scraps, a couple of pillow forms and a page out of the catalog to my seamstress. She made the pillows, $20 each and I hot glued on the fringe.

Thanks for looking! For those of you that are new here, we have a Linky party every Tuesday. It is Ten Minute Task (TMT) Tuesday. All you need to do it set your timer for ten minutes, tackle a project and be sure to take before and after pictures. Hope to see you play along!

One more link for you, I know, I’m all over the place today! There’s just so much great stuff out there in blog land to share with you all! Southern Inspiration is hosting a double giveaway, go check it out. I am hoping to win the 16×20 custom poster print!

Ooooh, nice work! Isn’t it satisfying to duplicate inspiration pieces with materials you have on hand? That cross is so uniquely creative and the bolster is divine. Beautiful!
