Time to Vote!
Happy Friday Lazy Moms! We’ve had a great week talking about cooking, one of my favorite subjects. OK, that’s a lie. Eating is actually one of my favorite subjects. But you’ve got to do one to do the other so I just pretend I like cooking! I obviously have no shame!
Here are our five favorite tips we received this week. We did have several similar tips submitted. When that happens we pick the tip that was submitted first. So if one of the tips sounds like one you sent in that’s because they are very similar, but the one posted was sent in first. How’s that for a rambling run on of a sentence?!
OK, Vote! Let’s see who wins that great Oster Fusion blender!
What is the best Cooking Tip?
- Here are my tips for making cooking painless. (1) Have your husband cook. ... ok, seriously ... Meal plan for the week. While your meal is cooking & you are already in the kitchen, prep for the next night by chopping veggies, putting meat in the fridge to thaw, even pre-mixing ingredients if you can! It cuts done on time in the kitchen because all you are doing is the actual cooking - prep for each night is finished ahead of time! (45.0%)
- use a cheap cut of beef (rump roast, etc.)...pour in some cut up potatoes, onions, and carrots and top it off with a can of French onion soup....cook it on low all day....yummy dinner later! Another one of my "go to" meals is vegetable soup - which is always a bit different because I use whatever is on hand! I try to freeze leftover vegetables and chicken, etc. when I have it - I just pour it into a container and keep adding to it. When the freezer container is full, it is time to make soup. The base of the soup is a can of chicken broth, and I add V-8 juice to that...along with whatever meat I have on hand (ground beef, rotisserie chicken) frozen veggies work well too. I always add pasta or orzo or lentils to make it filling. My family loves my soup - and it is so easy. Because I am a lazy mom, I always use my biggest pot and freeze half (if I am going to cook, I want it to last a while!) I love the rotisserie chickens - always get one when I go to the store. I use them for everything - chicken salad, chicken casseroles, soups, etc. My kids love orzo and chicken, or "chicken hash" - which is just cut up potatoes and onions, sauteed in a little olive oil until tender, with cut up leftover chicken. - I buy ground beef in bulk from Costco or Sam's Club. I then cook it all up, drain it, then divide it into lbs, in zip lock bags, and then freeze it. When I have something I want to make with beef in it, I thaw out the frozen bag in hot water. Dinner is much faster and way easier to do it all at once. That helps us to not order a pizza when we feel lazy and make spagetti instead! (10.0%)
- t least once a week I make homemade pizzas but I don't always have a pizza crust and I don't want to make a grocery store run. However I ALWAYS have flour tortillas so I use those for the pizza crust. I put a little olive oil on the tops of the tortillas. You can put olive oil on one then rub the other over the top to transfer oil from one to the other. Swirl on a bit of pasta sauce, which I also ALWAYS have in the pantry. Sprinkle a little Italian seasoning on the pasta sauce. Another staple I keep is a roll of Jimmy Dean sausage. I scramble that up, drain it and add some to each "pizza." Whatever cheese** I have tops it. It's not always mozzarella or an Italian blend. After all, I'm not making a traditional "pizza." Add any other toppings you like and bake in a 400* oven until the "crust" is crispy and the cheese is melted. With a thin crust, it doesn't take long! (5.0%)
- There are so many terrific marinades on the market now. And whole chickens can be purchased very inexpensively. I like to place a whole chicken in my crock pot in the morning, add a marinade such as Jerk Chicken, and let simmer all day. Before dinner I pull the tender chicken off and serve in tortillas, with rice, or over toasted bread. (3.0%)
The poll closes at noon central time on Sunday. So if you want to win, tell all your friends to come and vote for you! Then you can host a thank you party and serve Chiquita smoothies made in your Oster blender! I won’t even mind if you use my idea and add half a can of vodka to the mix. But you have to invite me!
