The Dam Club
One of the biggest blessings about being a woman is the gift of girlfriends. They are so important. By nature, women are talkers and relaters. Men can get together and golf and not say a word and have a great time. Women can get together and just talk – doing nothing else – and their time together is successful.
When you find a good girlfriend, it’s important to hang on to her. Some of my best girlfriends are from high school. Many of us even went to middle school together. We were cheerleaders together in high school. Our moms became friends because we were always together. When college came we went our separate ways, but never forgot each other.
A few years ago, we all go together. Mothers and daughters. It was such fun to catch up with everyone. We decided we needed to make it a monthly occurrence and even came up with a catchy name: The Dam Club (Daughters and Mothers of Memorial). We had so much fun with this name. My mom, who never cusses, loves to say The Dam Club! In the early months, we uttered a lot of those just because we thought we were funny!
We have done everything from exchange recipes, passed pictures of kids and grand-kids around, and baby showers to supporting one of our own through cancer. Sadly, in all our months of getting together, I don’t seem to have one single group picture. I had my Mom snap some pics at the most recent wedding shower. These are just a few of our Dam friends! (see…funny isn’t it…don’t you wish you had Dam friends???)

Now that I have moved away, I especially look forward to getting back to town to get together with The Dam Club. We have high aspirations of taking a cruise together one day. For now though, it’s hard enough just to organize our schedules for dinner!
