Shower Short

Take shorter showers to reduce water use. This will lower your water and heating bills too. Now this tip is hard for me to support. I love long hot showers! However if you turn that long shower into a special treat and only have it once a week you will be green! And this is the kind of green that won’t wash off!

My Friend Kindle

I am a huge reader. I always have been. I remember one Christmas. I was probably 13, somewhere in that neighborhood. There was a large rectangular box under the tree for me. The box was at least three feet long. It was my absolute favorite gift that year! Inside that box was a bunch of scrunched up newspaper, but in all that newspaper was about ten books. I was thrilled!

I still can sit for hours and read. I often leave the house early to get in the carpool line. That …

Bring a reusable water bottle, preferably aluminum rather than plastic, with you when traveling or at work. There are several different sizes and designs available. Wouldn’t it feel great to do something good for the planet and have it look cute too!

Recycle Your Cell Phone

Recycle your cell phone. Most of us have gone through several cell phones during our life. What did you do with your old one? Most schools will collect them, the troops use recycled phones in Iraq, or you could turn it in to your provider when you pick out your new phone.

Wrapping up the Week

Today is normally the day we would put our poll up so you all could vote for the Tip of the Week. There’s just one problem! Not one of you submitted a going green tip this week. We received several great tips, just not green tips. I guess LMA’s confession about not being green was one you all could relate to?! Maybe everyone was so quiet because you guys aren’t very green either? Or maybe you were all out busy recycling and picking up cans?

We can’t bear the thought of …

Sing for Green!

My family absolutely loves to sing.  We aren’t necessarily good at it, but we love to do it.  We are always singing in the car.  In fact, we love to sing so much we have a family theme song!  One time we got into this little “debate” with another family about who liked to sing the most.  The conversation went like this:

us:  “We love to sing.”

them:  “No, we LOVE to sing!”

us:  “You don’t understand, we sing all the time.”

them:  “Oh, yeah, well, …

Love Your Library

Borrow from libraries instead of buying personal books and movies. This saves money, not to mention the ink and paper that goes into printing new books.

Green.  It’s the new black. Everyone is wearing it.  On their sleeves, that is.  “Sustainability” has catapulted from a good idea and a grass roots movement into a revolution.  Frantic cries of “Global warming!” and “Carbon Footprint” are echoing from every corner of society as surely …

Confessions of a Lazy Mom

LML came up with this great idea that we would have confessions every week.  It sounded fun, in theory.  But, now that I’m confessing, I’m not sure how I feel about it.  This is a little embarrassing.  I am so embarrassed to tell you that there is not ONE SINGLE THING about me that is green.  We don’t recycle…lazy, I know!  We drink water out of plastic bottles…spoiled, I know.  Worst of all, I use aerosol hairspray….vain, I know!

In honor of earth week, I am going to recycle this week.  …
