It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

It seems like we waited and waited for summer to finally get here. And once it FINALLY did, it has flown by! I am amazed that the stores are filled with back to school items already! It makes perfect sense. It is almost August after all. I just can’t figure out where June and July went!

A sure sign that school is around the corner is the purchase of new school shoes. Lazy Dad Philip and I are big party animals! So big in fact, that we spent our most recent Saturday night in Academy buying shoes for our kids! Man we know how to paint the town red!

We have one still in elementary. He will wear tennis shoes almost every single day. Flip Flops are not allowed and he doesn’t like the way mulch gets into his shoes on the playground when he wears Crocs. Our oldest will be entering Middle School this year. She needs a new pair of tennis shoes that she will also wear almost every day. The only different is that she will wear hers in gym class almost exclusively. Most of the kids wear flip flops to school here. Since it is so hot most of the year it makes sense.

So after cruising the isles at our local Academy, this is what we came home with.back to school shoes

Both seem like good purchases to me. His are dark so they won’t show as much wear as lighter shoes will. They have laces instead of velcro. He knows how to tie his shoes and can use all the practice he can get. Her shoes are sporty enough for gym class yet cool enough that she might also wear them to school with jeans when it finally cools off around here, say January?

I have to admit that Back to School is usually my favorite time of year. We are back on a schedule. I have always loved to buy school supplies. The temperatures will eventually drop. And I no longer will have two kids following me around complaining of being bored. However, I am a little apprehensive this year. With one going into Middle School we have some big changes in our future. She s an amazing young lady and can handle anything life throws her direction. I’m just not sure if Mommy is ready for it!
