Really? I can’t believe I thought this whole confession thing was a good idea! Share all my deepest, darkest most embarrassing secrets with all of you? Why would I do that?

Oh yeah! LMA and I want to spread the word to all the moms out there that we all have secrets, we all have tricks, we all are not perfect! In the spirit of sharing here I go….

This (insert long dramatic pause here) is my guest room.

confessions

This is the door at the top of my stairs that is always closed when you come to my house. For those of you that have been to my home, have you wondered what lay behind that closed door? Well, now you know! Can you see the bed? Don’t you want to come spend the night with me? Very welcoming right?

In my defense, I have lived in this house going on seven years. In that time I have had a house guest two times. Oh! Correction three times. Two of those times the guest slept in this room and it was spotless and inviting. The third time was on short notice. My 15 year old niece came to spend a few days with me. I made Grace sleep in her brother’s room with him and gave the niece Grace’s bed.

I am blessed to have a home with an extra bedroom. I feel like I should be capable of keeping it guest ready. Do you agree? Do you think I am too hard on myself? Do I need to let it go?

What is your Lazy Mom confession? Link back to us and let us know. Leave us a comment and let your guilt go! We all need to relax and not feel so guilty about this stuff. Let’s help each other do that! Here is Mr. Linky, share the Linky love ladies!

2nd-time-around
On a different note, I have linked to Diane for her 2nd Time Around Tuesday. This is my drop leaf table that I love! This was my kitchen table growing up. I have memories of sitting with my brother eating cereal at this table. I also remember eating a cucumber sandwich at this table.

drop leaf table

I have recently moved this table to this spot. As you can see by this next picture it is right under the TV in our family room and I haven’t accessorized it yet. I tried three different lamps on it today and they were all too tall. My hubby is not going to be happy if the lamp infringes on his TV viewing pleasure. I am thinking I need a floor lamp instead. Any suggestions?

What a neat piece to add to your home! It hold such fond memories, and has such history, that it is priceless! Seeing that there wasn’t a lot of space from the top of the table to where the TV is, I picture something low…like a neat piece of fabric placed on a diaganol, and then a really cool tray with handles on it where you would have wine glasses, and snacks, etc…Is lighting needed in that spot? I think you are right about a floor lamp or spotlight discreetly behind something so that it doesn’t distract from your awesome furniture!

Back to lazy confessions…isn’t it nice to have a room where you can hide things and store stuff until there is time to deal with it!?! Yeah! We have a part of our basement that is unfinished which is where I hide lots of things like holiday boxes, birthday gifts, and recent purchases until I am ready to take them out…then my husband asks, “How long have we had that?” to which I reply, “Oh, we’ve had that for ages honey!” :-)

    Hello…

Ooooh…I just love your drop-leaf table!!! Hmmmm…I think a lamp would be great on it as well…maybe you can get by with using one but just leave the lamp off during TV viewing? It’s always fun to figure new vignettes out!

    Warmest wishes,
    Chari

I think everyone needs a junk room. Our homes never have enough storage so where else are you supposed to put it all? And I just have to confess that I don’t have the guts to confess. Sorry girls, I’m a chicken!

I agree…It’s so nice to have a room that you don’t have to keep picked up and that you can quickly throw stuff into!

That drop table is pretty. If it were mine, I might put a small plant or vase with flowers and maybe a few books or knick knacks….so many possibilities. It’s always fun to create a vignette….Christine

Love the table but it does not say lamp to me.
I would put something full and colorful on it, to distract from the TV.

    Blessings,

    Hi Leslie!

Oh, I don’t believe that you are lazy. You are just a busy mom like all of us are or were. I think you should straighten your guest room if it makes you happy. OR, company is a great motivator so wait until you must organize the guestroom. BIG smile. Love the table and it has meaning to you. Accessorize and make yourself happy about the look.

    Hugs…Jeanne

I agree with Christine. A small vase with flowers, books, and maybe a photo? I have a similar table in our entryway with pictures and a vase on it. It was my mother-in-law’s, and I really like it. And I’m laughing because our guest room looks JUST like yours! In the 3 years we’ve been in this house, we’ve had guests three times. Each time, we’ve had to clean that room. It’s the catch-all room that holds all the junk as I figure out what to do with it!

  • Texas Susan said:

Your guest room looks like the #2 son’s bedroom . . . which is SUPPOSED to double as our guest room! How do we deal with guests? We don’t have any!! We just book them a room at a local motel. We are so lame!

  • Jo said:

Now my 4 children have left home I have three spare rooms for guests. One is immaculate, but the other two gradually “acquire” junk as the months go by after the current guests leave!! Big job when a big family comes to visit to get them in order. Luckily we gave another old unused house on the property to house “stuff”.

ix-nay on the amp-lay. I don’t think a lamp would look right there. maybe some cool book-ends and some nice leather-bound books in between? I go to the garden center of stores (Hobby Lobby is a good one) and purchase small, heavy yard ornaments or door stops to use as book-ends. They are always different and more rustic.
