Do you remember a few weeks ago when I told you about my children’s birthday parties going to Mexico?

And do you remember a few weeks before that when I told you it was HOT!

Well when we got back from Mexico this is what our plants looked like. What do you want from me? I had arranged for someone to come feed the dog and let her out (which is a lovely story all on it’s own!). I was supposed to pay someone to take care of my plants too?

So sad! This is also what our friends see as soon as they come to our home. We have a side garage and the door that leads into our kitchen is right off the driveway. So I put these pots near my “back” door to help soften that entrance and make it more welcoming to our friends. Without a doubt seeing these plants will make anyone feel welcomed and confident that their hostess will provide for their every need!
Last weekend my wonderful hubby agreed that we needed to replace these dead plants! Sunday afternoon we headed over to our local garden center and bought almost anything we could find that could withstand our heat and the direct sun these pots will get. I know, I should have purchased a cactus! Don’t they look so much better!
Now if you come to my house you won’t feel like you need to sneak in your own water bottle to be sure you don’t leave dehydrated! I might ask you to water my plants before I let you in though, but I’ll pour you a glass of wine while I’m waiting! Just be sure to roll the hose back up when you are done.
We received this Lazy Mom Confession from Diane Y. and thought it was worth passing along to you!
My confesssion…. I have 2 boys ages 12 and 8. I buy most foods that they can cook. I show them 1 time what to do, that tell them to read the directions. I het my dinner cooked for me at least 2 times a week. There is nothing better then being served dinner made by my sons. Lazy YES, Stress free even better!!!
Thanks, Diane! Any tips or confessions that you want to share? We have to help our fellow Lazy Moms out so we can all get more done so we can have more fun!! Leave a comment with your best cooking tip or confession!
I recently found this great website that I thought you should know about. It’s www.usakidseatfree.com. You click on your state and your city and it shows you restaurants in your area that offer kids eat free. This way, we can be Lazy Moms and eat out instead of cooking!
I hope this segment isn’t “wearing” you out, but I’m having a great time snapping pictures of strangers across this great nation of ours. Today I was in the great state of Oklahoma. I feel since this is my home state that I can talk to you honestly about it. We Okies cringe at certain things.
Exhibit #1: When the Oklahoma City bombing happened, Katie Couric did not pick a nice “normal” looking person. Instead, she ineterview the person that doesn’t use correct grammar, is missing teeth and wearing overalls. Not that there is anything wrong with any of these things, but it just doesn’t help us further our cause that Oklahoma is a civilized state.
Exhibit #2: I remember when I was a teenager on vacation to Florida. My sister and I met up with some other teenagers on the beach and they asked us if we lived in teepees and rode mechanical bulls. Seriously?
Exhibit #3: This woman at the local drugstore picking up her prescription.
In case you can’t make this out SHE’S WEARING PJS AND A ROBE!!!! Only in Oklahoma? Or do you see this where you live too? I guess she might qualify for the ultimate Lazy Mom!!!
One of our tips that we posted last week came from Lisa C.
To get kids to help around the house, we came up with a chore system. We have a dry erase board that lists the daily mandatory jobs (making your bed, feeding the cat, etc). We also have a list of optional chores that each have a monetary value. The kids can earn up to $5 per week doing optional chores. Once they get their money, they must divide it between savings, spending and giving envelopes.
Another Lazy Mom, Angela, asked if she could see a picture of the dry erase board that Lisa uses. Angela, like the rest of us, has a hard time getting her kids to do their chores and has to remind them all the time. That sounds way too familiar to me! Lisa took some pictures of her board for us.
Here is her beautiful daughter Jordan showing it to us:
Here is another summary her system that Lisa was kind enough to send into us.
Readers will note that my kiddos have required chores that must be done daily, then they may decide to work on optional commissions for money. They can earn up to $5 per week in optionals (which then must be divided between three envelopes – save, spend, give). They are responsible for marking the chart with the number of the chore they completed, as well as making sure they notify us so we can check their work.
Thanks so much Lisa for sending your tip into us and for taking pictures! We hope Lisa’s suggestions can help some of our fellow Lazy Moms!
